Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) has suspended the search for a new Rector following an interim order of the high court of Uganda served on 2nd July 2015 at Mbale.
The vacancy of Rector was announced at the beginning of June 2015 for interested people to apply.
According to a press release issued on 3rd July 2015 and signed by the current Rector IUIU, Dr. Ahmad Kawesa Sengendo, the search process is suspended until further notice.
“The Islamic University in Uganda wishes to inform IUIU staff and students, the general secretariat of the OIC, members of the general public, interested applicants, those who have applied and those who have not yet applied, and all the key stakeholders of the university that the rector search committee (RSC) and its processes have been temporarily suspended until further notice. There will be no further activity of the RSC and related processes”, the press release reads in part.
The Rector is the Chief Executive Officer of the University and is responsible for the direction of the academic, administrative and financial affairs of the University in accordance with guidelines laid down by the University Council.
He also serves as the Secretary of the Council and coordinates the functions of the Council with those of the Executive Board (Senate).
He represents the University in its dealings with other authorities and institutions; and prepares and submits to the Executive Board for review before being submitted to the Council, the annual report on the affairs of the University.
