In an effort to inspire and guide the next generation, staff members from the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) conducted an enlightening career guidance session for students and teachers at Sironko Parents Secondary School on Tuesday, July 9, 2024. The event aimed to provide valuable insights into academic programs and career opportunities, fostering a sense of purpose and direction among the students.
Ms. Kantono Rehema, the Public Relations Officer at IUIU, kicked off the session by sharing a brief history of the institution. She emphasized the importance of early career planning and encouraged students to identify their dream professions and strive for excellence. “Study with a purpose,” she advised, urging students to stay focused on their goals.
Ms. Rehema highlighted the quality education offered by IUIU, known for producing ethical and well-prepared graduates. She also assured the students of a safe learning environment at IUIU and discussed the financial aid options available, including scholarships and bursaries for deserving students. “IUIU is open to students of all faiths,” she stressed, promoting inclusivity and diversity.
Mr. Mayanja Yusuf, Manager of IUIU FM, shared his personal journey, underscoring the significance of hard work and perseverance in achieving academic success. He cautioned students against relying on shortcuts or external help during exams, advocating for integrity and diligence. Addressing common misconceptions about IUIU, Mr. Mayanja highlighted the university’s international recognition and strong academic reputation. He pointed out key features of IUIU, such as affordable tuition fees, flexible payment options, a diverse range of academic programs, and various extracurricular activities.
The Director of Studies at Sironko Parents Secondary School, Mr. Yafesi Kalanga, emphasized the necessity of future planning for students, particularly first-generation university students. He acknowledged the challenges they face and underscored the critical role parents play in their children’s educational journeys. “Informed decision-making regarding subject combinations is essential,” he noted, encouraging students to think ahead and make strategic choices.
Headmistress Ms. Rose Kayiji expressed her gratitude to IUIU for the informative session. She highlighted the relevance of the information provided and its positive impact on students’ attitudes towards higher education. Inspired by the session, Ms. Kayiji shared her intention to pursue a Master’s in Business Administration at IUIU. “The students are now more motivated to achieve the grades needed to pursue their desired courses,” she concluded, reflecting the session’s success in motivating and guiding the students.
