Hon. Al-hajj Ally Kirunda Kivejinja and Hon. Muhammad Rukara Khalfani were awarded with honorary doctorates of laws (honoris causa) of the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) at the recent graduation this year.
The doctorate degrees awarded were in recognition of their invaluable contributions towards humanity. Kirunda Kivejjinja has greatly contributed towards IUIU and the country at large.
These historical awards are in line with section 47 (i) of the universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act, 2001 which provides that the University Senate may award honorary degrees to persons who have excelled in any sector of life as it may deem fit on the recommendation of an honorary degrees committee established jointly by Senate and the University Council.
Hon. Rukara and Hon. Kivejjinja become the fourth and fifth persons respectively to be awarded with honorary doctorates by IUIU.
In 2012, the University awarded the same doctorate to H.E Ambassador Nasser Abdallah Hamdan Al-Zaabi in recognition for his contribution towards the development of humanity.
