Islamic Development Bank Funds Boost ICT Infrastructure at Islamic University in Uganda

The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) has enhanced its Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure with funding from the Islamic Development Bank (ISDB). On August 20, 2023, a delegation from ISDB, led by Dr. Umar Ishaq Iddris, visited the IUIU main campus in Mbale to assess the progress of various ISDB-funded projects.

During the two-day visit, the ISDB delegation toured key facilities, including ICT installations and a new library under construction. The Rector of IUIU, Associate Professor Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda, and Vice-Rector for Finance and Administration, Professor Kaziba Abdul Mpaata, accompanied the visitors alongside other university officials.

Dr. Chemisto Musa, the ICT Manager of IUIU, expressed gratitude for ISDB’s significant support, highlighting that the university’s Wi-Fi coverage has increased to over 90% due to the equipment purchased with ISDB’s assistance. He added that IUIU aims to achieve full Wi-Fi coverage across all its campuses within the next two years.

Dr. Musa also emphasized the university’s achievements in ICT, noting that IUIU is now sharing its core software with other institutions, such as Lakeside University in Ghana.

The Rector of IUIU, Associate Professor Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda, welcomed the ISDB delegation and highlighted the importance of completing the multimedia studio. He appealed for further support from ISDB to enhance the university’s educational capabilities.

The ISDB delegation commended IUIU for its efforts in utilizing ICT to improve education.
