Profile: Abubaker Hassan Matanda

Early this year, Abubaker Hassan Matanda was declared the Guild President of Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU). Matanda beat three others in a tense race at the 25 year old institution to emerge victorious.

Abubaker told The Campus Times that he is in love with politics. “My relationship with politics is complicated; sometimes I love it, other times I can’t stand it, however, on the whole, I think I can run but I can’t escape it.” he explains.

 The 22 year old Matanda describes himself as a fervent motivational speaker, an author by passion, a strategic entrepreneur by conviction, a successful politician by compulsion, and a shrewd Lawyer to be by profession.

A ‘city’ born of Manjiya in Bududa district located in Eastern Uganda, Abubaker Hassan Matanda attended Mbale tower primary school, Mbogo Mixed secondary school, Kibuli senior secondary school before joining Islamic University in Uganda, Mbale Main campus where he is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in law (Third year).

He enjoys reading historical, political, philosophical and psychological books besides volunteering and sharing developmental ideas aimed at personal development.

He says that he has traveled and toured widely thus touching many people’s lives through his powerful motivational speeches on how to face daily-life fears like;

  • The public speaking phobia
  • How to let go off the past and live a fulfilling and purposeful life by building self-esteem
  • Engaging in result oriented planning
  • Getting the guts to take the first step.

The young motivational speaker, Abubaker Hassan Matanda is about to publish a book titled  “Stop surviving and start living” .

Abubaker Hassan Matanda has also authored a number of articles and poems in various magazines and blogs on how to inspire others.

He says that his positive change advocacy is his life mission that he lives for.

“My dream is to inspire a movement of youths who are proactive in playing their part in improving their own lives and humanity at large”, he adds.

“I believe I can become the youngest African billionaire through entrepreneurship, and answer the hardest questions on political leadership in this country through integrity and accountability by grooming not only myself but as many young credible leaders as practically possible”, Abubaker Hassan Matanda, IUIU Guild President confidently says.
