Crushed Spain boss Vicente del Bosque said he had no words to explain his side’s 5-1 humiliation by Holland.

Holders Spain suffered their worst defeat for 51 years in their humbling by Holland, who exacted revenge for their World Cup final defeat four years ago.

Two goals apiece from Robin va nPersie adn Arjen Robben, plus one from defender Stefan de Vrij, condemned Spain to a shock defeat here in Salvador.

Spain coach del Bosque said: “I don’t have words to explain it. We’ve never been a very defensive team, but we were very weak and have to recognise the ability of van Persie and Robben.

“We didn’t react properly, they were euphoric and they hammered us.”

“In the second half they totally overwhelmed us, but it’s not the time to point the finger of blame.

“We’re all to blame. We must look to the future and go to the next match and secure a win against Chile. I feel really bad, very upset and disappointed but I have enough courage to understand this defeat. You cannot go under.

“We are a team of very good professionals. Of course, a defeat is very painful, but we had a chat in the dressing-room.”
