Holders of diplomas in accounting or finance can apply for Accounts Assistant job at Mental Health

Job title: Accounts Assistant

Mental Health Uganda (MHU) is a national, membership, indigenous, (NGO) of people with and survivors of mental illness started in 1997 to ensure that ‘people with and survivors of mental illness in society are embraced with respect and enjoy their human rights as other citizens.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Prepare staff pay roll for bank transfers at the end of the month;
Ensures that all invoices from external parties (suppliers, service providers…) are paid in due time, by bank transfer, cheque or cash and arrange those documents by date: his/ her task of preparing bank transfer and cheque documents;
Attend and record all bank transactions, maintain bank accounts, ensure monthly bank statements and account overviews;
Ensure liquidation of any internal advances and update advance outstanding by the end of each month and report to the finance officer;
Update and maintain the fixed asset register, follow up consultancies, contractor contract and stock of stationery;
Responsible for entry of expenses in the cash book;
Regularly check and control to ensure quality and completeness of justification and supporting accounting documents of all expenses following guidelines;
Ensure accounting coding and budgeting lines are correct. This includes verification of financial reports, expenses and supporting documents;
Keep track accounting data on a monthly basis;
Ensure monthly balance of cash books and bank statements are the same, and responsible for completion and approval of reconciliation statements if any;
Responsible for transparent and consistent filling of all accounting, banking and cash management documents;
Organise copies of all supporting bank documents and cash documents;
Manage petty cash;
Perform any other duty as assigned by the Finance and administrative Officer.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

All applicants should hold diplomas in accounting, finance and/or administration or related field;
At least two years’ experience in accounting and project administration;
Extensive hand-on-knowledge of excel and word is a must. Other programmes (database, quick books and other accounting programs) a strong advantage; a mature, good communicator and team player.
