Job Title: Health & Safety Officer (No Experience Job Opportunities)

Duty Station:  Kampala, Uganda

Reports to: Human Resource Manager

Steel and Tube Industries is one of the leading and most reputable manufacturers of steel products in Uganda. The company was incorporated in 2003 starting off with the bulk manufacture of steel tubes and plates. The company has over the years grown exponentially expanding its operations dealing with some products ranging from Roof products, Hot Rolled
products, Wire products, and Trade products to Stainless Steel Tanks and consequently widening its base of operations by opening outlets countrywide.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Enforcing good health and safety practices
  • Promoting good standards, practices and procedures of health and safety
  • Costs of accidents
  • Investigating accidents
  • Health and safety management systems
  • Setting policies
  • Roles and responsibilities of employers and employees
  • Developing a health and safety culture
  • Emergency procedures
  • First aid requirements for effective provision

Risk assessments

  • Risk control measures
  • Safe systems of work like work permits

Active and reactive monitoring

  • Health and safety audits
  • Accidents, reporting and investigating
  • Reviewing of health and safety performance

Workplace hazards

  • Health, welfare and work environment requirements
  • Violence at work
  • Substance misuse
  • Movement of people in the workplace

Transport hazards

  • Safe movement of vehicles
  • Driving at work

Muscular skeletal hazards and risk control

  • Work Related Upper Limb Disorders
  • Manual handling hazards

Machinery hazards/ work equipment hazards

Electrical safety

Fire safety

  • Principles of fire
  • Fire assessment
  • Fire alarms and fire equipment

Chemical and biological health hazards and control

  • Forms, classifications, health risks

Physical and psychological health hazards and risk control

  • Noise
  • Radiation
  • Vibration
  • Stress

Safety and Ethics

  • Ensure cleanliness in and around the workplace.
  • Facilitate security of company staff and property.
  • Promote health and safety at the workplace.
  • Encourage teamwork for the purpose of a smooth and prosperous management.
  • Help create a culture and atmosphere of hard work and high personal integrity.
  • Safeguard the company’s systems and Terms and Conditions of employment.
