Haaland scores Five goals as Man City beat RB Leipzig in UCL

Haaland scored five goals to lead Manchester City into the quarter-finals of the Champions League with a 7-0 win over RB Leipzig at the Etihad Stadium.

The match between the two teams was evenly poised after a 1-1 draw in Germany, but Haaland’s remarkable performance shifted the momentum in Man City‘s favour. He scored a first-half hat-trick and two more goals before the hour, leading his team to a decisive victory. With this incredible performance, Haaland has now scored a total of 39 goals this season.

Gundogan and De Bruyne also scored in the match, but the star of the show was 22-year-old Norwegian, Haaland. He became the first player in nine years to score five goals in a single Champions League game, and he could have scored more if he had not been substituted by Pep Guardiola.

I am really proud to play in the Champions League, I love this competition. Five goals to win 7-0 at home – I am so happy.

I do not remember the goals, I just shoot, I do not think!

A lot of goals today I did not think, I just did it. On the penalty, I just wanted to get it in the back of the net, same with the second goal, same with the third goal and every goal.

Haaland told BT Sport.

Haaland’s first goal of the night was a penalty awarded due to a harsh handball decision against Benjamin Henrichs, following a VAR check. Two minutes later, he scored a magnificent second goal with a towering header after De Bruyne’s shot hit the crossbar.

De Bruyne had the final say scoring the seventh goal of the night.

Guardiola had said beforehand he knows his time at City will be judged by some on whether he wins the Champions League.

Haaland’s presence means that he finally might.
