Gulu University Students Sent Home, Examinations Suspended

Gulu University administration has suspended examinations for first semester one for the academic year 2017/2018 following a strike by the non teaching staff.

The non teaching staff went on strike on Monday 4th December 2017 over unpaid up allowances of over sh700m. They say that this money should be cleared before they give examinations to students.

“After consultations with Chairman Council Gulu University, I hereby inform all students and staff of Gulu University that examinations for semester one 2017/2018 are suspended indefinitely”, a letter from the office of the Vice Chancellor read.

“Students should go home immediately and the date of return will be announced later”, the letter added.

Students were meant to start examinations on 4th December 2017, but after noticing that the staff to administer the exams were on strike, the students also started demonstrating demanding for examinations.

The Campus Times has learned that students are expected to go and sit for exams in January 2018.
