Government through the Ministry of Education and Sports is planning to take over Busoga University & Mountains of the Moon University as Public Universities.
This follows a letter dated 8th January 2018 by the President of Uganda, Yoweri K Museveni to the Ministry of Education and Sports directing that government takes over Mountains of the Moon University and Busoga University and converts them into public universities in Toro and Busoga sub-regions respectively.
The President further directed that the Ministry of Education and Sports should plan to have at least one public University in each sub-region that was recognised as a district of Uganda at independence in 1962.
The license of Busoga University was revoked by National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) at the end of 2017 over alleged mismanagement.
