The Ministry for Health has seconded Indian medical experts under Metropolis laboratory to set pace for diagnostic services to Ugandans at an affordable price.
In a speech presented on behalf of the state Minister for Health in charge of primary healthcare Hon. Margaret Muhanga who was represented by the commissioner in charge for laboratories Ms. Suzan Ntabadde, on Tuesday during the launch of the first ever Metropolis branch in Uganda kampala.
She urged Ugandans to corporate with the initiative by supporting the development and expressed her gratitude towards the Indian medical experts for employing Ugandans in the facility.
She described that for a longstanding history, Ugandans have been diagnosed and air lifted to countries like India to access better health services with a high cost attached.
Some among the costs are the air tickets, visa fees and donor travel costs however, this has come to an end with the new diagnostic laboratory opened by Metropolis, Ntabadde said.
According to Dr. Sushil Shah the founder and chairperson Metropolis Healthcare, “ the laboratory shall offer a comprehensive range of over 4000 clinical laboratory tests and profiles used for prediction, early detection, diagnostic screening, confirmation and monitoring of the disease.’’
This is the very first branch and the main Centre but the second shall be established in Enttebe, therefore the first branch shall be connected with multiple collection points across the capital city and later spread to other towns, Dr. Sushil added.
He explained that the system is mobile too since there is a provision for patients not to directly come to the laboratories but instead seek the diagnostic services from home through the technologies, contact numbers and a technician or doctor is sent to pick the samples.
