Senegal took the lead after 37 minutes when Thiago Cionek deflected an Idrissa Gana Gueye shot into his net. The Evertonmidfielder’s speculative effort came off the ankles of the Polish defender and beat the keeper.
It was another defensive calamity which gave Senegal their second, Mbaye Niang tapping home on the hour. Grzegorz Krychowiak attempted a lofted back pass, Niang intercepted and rounded Wojciech Szczesny.
Niang had just re-entered play after an injury and Poland were incensed, however the goal stood. Krychowiak headed in from a free kick with four minutes to play however it was too little, too late.
