F1 star Michael Schumacher ‘to be transferred to £27,000,000 Majorcan mansion’

A Spanish mayoress has claimed Formula One legend Michael Schumacher will be transferred to the Majorcan mansion said to have been bought by his wife Corinna for £27 million. Katia Rouarch appeared to indicate he would arrive in the near future in an interview with weekly Swiss magazine L’Illustre. The Lausanne-based magazine quoted the politician, who became mayoress of Andratx in June last year, as saying: ‘I can officially confirm Michael Schumacher is going to move in to our municipality and that everything is being prepared to welcome him.’

It was a Bank Holiday yesterday in Spain and the town hall could not be reached for comment. L’Illustre said she had confirmed the news to its correspondent but no-one on the island had been able to say when Schumacher, 50 in January, would arrive or how long his stay would be.

It was reported last month Corinna had bought Real Madrid President Florentino Perez’s Majorcan mansion for nearly £27 million. German tabloid Bild said she had purchased the exclusive property on an upmarket estate in the southwest of the island so she could spend holidays there with her children and friends. The house was bought by building magnate Perez in 2005 but he put it up for sale last year after the death of his wife Mari Angeles Sandoval.

The villa is part of a 15,000 square metre estate which boasts two swimming pools, a helipad, a gym and a huge palm-tree-fringed garden. Schumacher, the only driver in history to win seven F1 World Championships, was placed in a medically induced coma after a life-threatening skiing accident in December 2013 in the French Alps. He was relocated to the family home on the shores of Lake Geneva in September 2014 where he continues to receive medical treatment and rehabilitation. Updates on his health have been few and far between.

It has been reported he is looked after by a 15-strong medical team. The May 2012 death from cancer of Florentino Perez’s wife was said to be one of the reasons the Real Madrid president might have decided to put the property up for sale when it emerged last year it was on the market. The 71-year-old and his wife used to be regular visitors to the house – called Villa Yasmin – but he was rarely seen jetting to the island in the summer after she died. The gated estate it is built on is home to just a dozen houses and offers spectacular views of the Mediterranean from the Puig de Marmacen mountain.
