Egypt tops table to weaken Uganda’s world cup qualification chances

Geofrey Massa of Uganda battles for the ball with Ahmed Hegazy of Egypt.

Egypt is now on the top of Group E of the Africa World Cup qualifiers after Mohamed Salah early goal against Uganda Cranes at the 6th minute.

Egypt beat Uganda 1-0 in the world cup qualifier game played on 5th September 2017.

All eyes were on Ugandan goal keeper  Denis Onyango at the Alexandria  Borg EL Arab stadium- the same venue  where he lifted the CAF champions League with South African side mamelodi Sundowns in 2016.

‘I know knew the stadium very well. It was my second time here but  I had great memories on this ground. I wished we enjoyed great memories as Uganda cranes’ said Onyango.

Well despite getting 3 points from the Egyptain side last week, this time back we went as “under dogs” hoping to get a good result to keep our hopes higher

Uganda is now second in the group with 7 points, 2 behind Egypt and ahead of Ghana

There are two games to go as we host Ghana at Namboole and later play Congo Brazaville  on an away match.

The group winner will qualify for the 2018 world cup in Russia.
