Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle and model Erica Lauren resemblance is turning heads

People have been noticing a model in the US looks a lot like the new Duchess of Sussex.

Erica Lauren, from Los Angeles, has been turning heads on Instagram  so much so that people genuinely wonder whether they’re actually looking at Meghan Markle while casually scrolling through their feed.

“When I saw it [recent portrait], I thought, ‘am I following Meghan Markle?'” US-based body coach Kristina Bruce commented.

A few had observed the resemblance in the lead up to the royal wedding. In past months, Meghan Markle has gone from famous actress to global icon.

And now, Erica’s Instagram is flooded with comments. In some photos she looks like a genuine doppelgänger.

Lauren said she heard about the likeness early in her career back when she didn’t really know who Meghan was.

“It’s so funny from early on in modeling, someone would comment on a photo every so often ‘you look like the girl from ‘Suits!'” Lauren said.

“I had never seen the show before, so I had to Google her.”

These days, comparisons are made all the time. And after Meghan married Prince Harry in front of some two billion people, Lauren’s own profile has been amplified.

Lauren said she has “no complaints”. She thinks the Duchess of Sussex is “stunning” and is “flattered”.

The model said she’s also mixed race. Looking at early photos of herself, the similarity was apparent early on, before either woman was famous or all over social media.

But while looking like the Duchess is in itself significant, Lauren has made a name for herself through modelling work.

She said she was initially hesitant about starting a career in fashion, but noticed a surge in plus-size models a few years ago. She said the experience has been rewarding and hugely positive.

“…you could see women were out here supporting each other in the process,” Lauren said.

“I’ve received a lot of love and hearing that anyone is inspired by me, perhaps to take more risks themselves, is amazing.”
