Dr. Crispus Kiyonga Appointed Chancellor of Makerere University

President Yoweri Museveni has appointed Dr. Crispus Kiyonga as the new Chancellor of Makerere University. The appointment was announced through an official statement, with the university’s council extending a warm welcome to Dr. Kiyonga.

Dr. Kiyonga, a seasoned politician and former Minister of Defence, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. The position of Chancellor at Makerere University, a role that primarily involves overseeing ceremonial functions and representing the institution at various forums, is highly regarded in the Ugandan education sector.

In his previous roles, Dr. Kiyonga has demonstrated a strong commitment to public service, and his leadership is expected to bolster the university’s standing both locally and internationally. The university community, including the council and staff, has expressed optimism about his tenure, anticipating that his influence will enhance Makerere’s reputation as a center of excellence in education and research.

This appointment comes at a time when Makerere University is undergoing significant reforms aimed at improving governance, infrastructure, and academic standards. Dr. Kiyonga’s experience in government and public service is expected to be instrumental in guiding these efforts.

As the new Chancellor, Dr. Kiyonga succeeds Prof. Ezra Suruma, who served in the role for several years. His appointment is effective immediately, and the university community looks forward to his leadership in advancing Makerere’s mission of producing innovative and skilled graduates.
