Chief Executive Officer
Job summary
The A4HU Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is responsible for the planning, management and appropriate development/expansion of A4HU. The CEO is responsible for ensuring that A4HU’s work contributes effectively and efficiently towards meeting the short, medium and long term needs of young people, within the framework of A4Hus strategic and organisational objectives and in accordance with A4HU policies, guidelines and principles. The CEO is also expected to ensure that A4HU complies with all the relevant legal requirements of the country.
The CEO is answerable to the A4HU Board of Directors. The position is based in Kampala, regular travel to field offices and project sites as well as some international travel is required based on the annual work plan.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Accountability
Has ultimate accountability for all financial matters and shall review and approve all financial accounts.
Representation / Donor Relations
Is the principle point of contact with donors, the respective Government Ministries and Agencies and all other partners
Media/PR/Visibility
Is responsible for positive Media and PR coverage of A4HU’s activities
Resource Mobilisation
The CEO is responsible for the self-sustainability of A4HU’s operations and leads resource mobilization and fundraising activities of the organization.
Programme Management
The CEO ensures all programme, advocacy and training activities are implemented, monitored and evaluated in a timely manner and that they are appropriate, necessary, cost-effective, targeted, and sustainable by ensuring programmes and training meet the highest standards, provide on-going review and development of overall country strategy and undertake, with the programme management team, continuous review, monitoring and evaluation of the effectiveness, impact and direction of each project and programme.
Human Resource Management
The CEO is responsible for the health and welfare of his/ her team of staff and ensures that the policies and guidelines as laid down in the A4HU policies and HR manual for staff adherence, have overall responsibility for the preparation and implementation of personnel policies in line with respective national government policies and ensure that all staff contracts respect local labour laws.
Requirements:
• Master’s Degree in Development, Management, International Relations, or a relevant area
• Five years of progressive work experience as an organizational head in the NGO sector
• Ten years of experience in programme management
• Proven ability to lead, manage, inspire and motivate staff
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Excellent knowledge of national and international donor landscape
• Affinity for financial management
• Excellent oral and written English language skills
