Just as Anna Adeke Ebaju did it at Makerere University, Madinnah Zalwango,22, also wants to try her luck at Nkumba University. And one Doreen Ashaba (NRM) has come out to race with four other men for the same post at the embattled Kyambogo university.
Anna was the only girl in the guild race at MUK and the same applies to Madinnah. Though Anna contested on the FDC ticket, Madinnah says she will run as an independent candidate in the coming guild campaigns at Nkumba as Guild president 2013/14.
Guild elections at Nkumba will be held on 20th April while those of Kyambogo will be conducted on 25th March.
Concerning the ongoing marriage and divorce bill in parliament, sources reveal that Anna has already seen and said yes to someone’s proposal, but Madinnah’s relationship status is not known although she claims to be single and seriously settled.
The trend is changing, more girls are picking interest in taking up leadership at universities. One wonders if ladies can make a difference that many men have failed to do. The ball still remains in your hands!

Dear Editor,
It take this opportunity to comment on this article:
The idea of having lady Presidents isn't bad, however what matters is the ultimate journey while in office. Most Ugandan universities have witnessed a lot of controversies while having lady presidents at the helm of the students' guilds' and the main reasons have been to do with moral conduct and egoism towards especially male counterparts in the guild governments.
I therefore implore any university and my dear colleagues at Nkumba university, to critically focus and do thorough scrutiny of especially female guild presidential candidates. According to my experience; the historical background of that individual lady at her former schools matters a lot in-terms of moral conduct, leadership traits among other factors.
Don't be caught off guard, when either an OB or OG of that individual lady candidate comes out to reveal the moral weaknesses of that lady as displayed in her high school days which we tend to over look due to the overzealous support to that particular candidate. But to your surprise, whatever was highlighted during the campaign trail comes out to manifest itself while that lady is in office. Without mincing words, that's what happened at NKumba university during the 2006/07 guild government under Deborah Asasira (currently working with State house, Lands desk) were the university image was shattered when weekly tabloids were exposing the dirty morals of our then guild president. Worst of all was her (Deborah) lack of audacity to accommodate divergent views from fellow guild leaders and that's how we witnessed Deborah Asasira slapping the the guild prime minister the late RT. Hon Kiganda David including financing her ministers to go and assault the guild prime minister especially one Hon. Nsegiyuva Deo who was Deborah's campus Affairs minister. It is also on record that Deborah was censured from the top guild seat after allegedly assaulting the Dean of Students Mr. Kasasa David simply because he gave a divergent view on the then prevailing guild problems under her reign.
Such acts and many others that were witnessed by then students of Nkumba university (2006/2007)left the students fraternity with a daunting task to never entrust the mantle of Guild presidency to a lady. That's why the NRM students historical forum under my command launched a campaign to shift the mantle of power to our international students community that saw His Excellency Rengo Gyyw Rengo (then SPLM Students chairman- Uganda chapter)take over office that was witnessed with zero-tolerance to corruption acts in the students guild offices.
Interestingly, all the guild presidential candidates that have been supported cum-sponsored by Deborah Asasira in the names of being sent by State House to monitor guild elections in favor of the NRM party, have been a menace to the NRM Party in Nkumba university and country at large surrounded with mafia corruption, financial mismanagement scandals, immorality, tribalism and nepotism.
For those of you who never got chance to participate in last concluded national youth council elections- 2011, Deborah Asasira who was contesting for the post of National Female youth(2011/2016) was badly floored by then little known Amoding Anita and the crusade to block her victory to parliament was led by none other than my close relative the Late Nalwadda Dorris who was the elected chairman Wakiso District Youth council 2011/2016.
So, fellow alumni especially in Nkumba university take serious note of moral conduct, leadership traits and political maturity of any lady candidate wishing to take the Guild presidential seat. Make sure the lady you accept to choose can really handle and will safe guard the image of the university. Aluta Continua.
