Campus Times brings you live coverage of the launch of activities as ICWEA celebrates 10 years

The International Community of Women living with HIV Eastern Africa (ICWEA) is launching activities to mark 10 years of excellence in International, regional and national advocacy.

The function is taking place at Ssenge in Wakiso District – Uganda this 6th day of February 2015. The series of 3 months’ activities to run in the 5 East African Countries start with the official opening of ICWEA office premises at Ssenge.

The Chief Guest is Prof. Vinand Nantulya, the Chairman Uganda AIDS Commission with Stephen Lewis, the former UN Special Envoy for HIV&AIDS in Africa, the Co-founder and Co-director of AIDS Free World and Board Chair of Stephen Lewis Foundation as the Motivational Speaker. The function is also expected to be graced by the Former President of Botswana.

Other dignitaries and invited guests are UNAIDS, UN Women, UNDP, UNFPA, donors, government officials, civil society organisations, networks of people and women living with HIV, ICWEA members and the Regional Board members.

The International Community of Women Living with HIV&AIDS Eastern Africa (ICWEA) is a membership regional network run by and for women living with HIV including young women in Eastern Africa. Founded in 2005, ICWEA exists to give visibility to women living with HIV through promoting collective women’s voices at all levels and to advocate for changes that improves our lives.

ICWEA’s advocacy is based on evidence of the daily lived experiences of women living with HIV complemented by research that is usually carried out by women living with HIV through participatory processes to addresses the priorities of women living with HIV at all levels.
