Busoga University: The University Chancellor, the Rt. Rev. Dr. Michael A. S. Kyomya recently appointed Dr. David Lameck Kibikyo and Steven Mugoya as the new Vice Chancellor, and Deputy Vice Chancellor respectively.
This followed a recommendation from the University Council, after considering a report from the Search Committee composed of Council and Senate.
While introducing the appointees, the Vice Chairperson of the University Council, Edward Gaamuwa, said: “We are lucky because we have found, through a prolonged search, people whom we think will be able to continue providing leadership to this University. And because you have provided support and cooperation to the out-goingleaders, i am confident that you’ll be available to cooperate and work with the new team so that we may attain greater success as a university.”
Who is Assoc. Prof. David Lameck Kibikyo
Dr. David Lameck Kibikyo is an Associate Professor of Economics. He holds a PhD in Social Science, majoring in Economics from Roskilde University Centre [RUC] in Denmark. He also holds a Master of Arts in Economics Policy and Planning of Makerere University.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics of Makerere University and a Master’s degree in Public International Law [PIL] from Kampala International University. He has been an Associate Professor in charge of Research and Quality Assurance at the Kigali Institute of Management where he previously served as Director.
He also worked as the Dean of School of Economics and Applied Statistics and Deputy Principal, College of Economics and Business at Kampala International University. He is a Senior Research Fellow [SRF] at the Centre for Basic Research and has published widely.
Dr. David Kibikyo said: “We are here to develop Busoga as a region by building a University which will beat all universities in the Country, region and the continent. We shall link the current strategic plan to the development of Busoga.”
Who is Mugoya Steven
Mugoya Steven is an Accountant by profession. He holds an MBA from Makerere University Business School and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Makerere University. He is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants of UK and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda.
Mr. Mugoya brings to the University over 30 years of working experience in senior positions in finance, administration and audit in reputable organizations in Uganda, and within East and Central African Region. He worked as Regional Finance Director of Invisible Children, East and Central Africa (2009-2013).
He also worked as Chief Administration Manager for ZOA, Refugee Care, South Sudan (2007-2009). He was an Assistant Commissioner, Internal Audit and Quality Assurance in Uganda Revenue Authority (1997-2005). He also worked in the Uganda Coffee Marketing Board as a Principal Accountant for Budgets and Management Accounting (1990-1996) prior to joining URA.
Mugoya said: “I thank the Management of this university for giving me the opportunity to serve as Deputy Vice Chancellor, Finance and Administration. It is a humbling experience and my immediate priority will be to learn what systems exist and build on/strengthen or improve on them and share ideas that will improve on systems and financial controls in the University. The challenges are great but I do hope that working as a team, they are not insurmountable at least in the medium term.”
The Acting Vice Chancellor, Dr. Frank Nabwiso expressed his gratitude to all the staff and appointing authority for giving him and the Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor, Mr. Mark Muwanguzi, the opportunity to serve Busoga University.
