Job Summary:  British Council will implement the third phase of the regional Better Migration Management (BMM) Programme in the Horn of Africa – Uganda, Ethiopia and Sudan – as part of a consortium led by GIZ and delivered under EU and German (BMZ) funding. The British Council will be an implementing partner with a specific focus on working with civil society organisations in the above mentioned countries, to improve access to information for migrants and connections to alternative livelihoods options. We are seeking a Project Manager to be part of the BMM delivery in Uganda.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage BMM Uganda’s project finance as per British Council policy and client requirements;
  • Manage the input and performance of project personnel including consultants;
  • Manage emerging and identified risks proactively using the corporate risk management framework;
  • Track and monitor progress, and oversee Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL)
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with coalition partners and other key players;
  • Stay informed of and attend relevant external meetings related to migration topics.
  • Effectively manage resources for project activity:
  • Relevant business processes (procurement, sales, travel and expenses, etc.) carried out in line with corporate standards using SAP where appropriate;
  • Suppliers selected and managed to maximum value for money, needs of internal and external stakeholders analyzed, understood and fully considered.
  • To identify, assess, report and monitor progress in addressing risks to the achievement of project objectives.
  • To complete and compile timely and accurate MCC reports to capture programme progression, challenges and risks
  • Deliver the monitoring and evaluation plan for Uganda, using the BMM programme’s monitoring and evaluation framework;
  • Collect and record all quantitative data within deadline and according to corporate standards.
  • Liaise with communication team, responsible for the effective communication and dissemination of the programme

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant for the British Council BMM Project Manager job placement must hold a University Degree in project management, business or social studies including in development, migration or Social Studies.
  • Four years’ experience including at least one year in a managerial role (project management)
  • Experience of managing the delivery of projects delivered through partners and / or using outsourced providers – through client/partner funds.
  • People skills, ability to work with diverse groups of people
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively with tight deadlines

Desirable:

  • Relevant Project management certification, PMP, Prince 2 and/or Project Management for Development (PMD)
  • Management of Risk (MoR)
