Two students have scooped awards after out-competing other contestants in the 6th National Biotechnology Essay-writing Contest.
The winner of the secondary school category,Crisha Phionah Mbabazi, a student of Kololo SSS, went home with a tablet while tertiary institution category winner, Steven Marvin Nsubuga, a student of administrative science at Kyambogo University got a brand new laptop.
Other contestants went away with hard cash.
The event was hosted at the National Crops Resources Research Institute, Namulonge in Wakiso district on Thursday.
The contest that was organized by Uganda Biosciences Information Centre(UBIC)under the theme “Modern Biosciences for more Nutritious Food and Industrial Development.” attracted over 146 and 56 submissions from 41 secondary schools and 14 tertiary institutions respectively.
The UBIC co-ordinator, Dr. Barbara Zawedde urged students to much emphasis on the science doctrines and promised internship placements for the winners at the NaCRRI.
