Job Title: Assistant Accountant
Monitor Co-operative Savings & Credit Society Limited (“the SACCO”) has got a current membership of 450 and assets in excess of UGX. 3 Billion. The SACCO has got fully functional offices that enable it to run its day to day business.
Job Summary: The Assistant Accountant will be responsible for improving the cash flow of the SACCO through effective credit management and ensuring that all revenues are appropriately disclosed and work is guided through the application of GAAPS and IFRS.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the daily reconciliation of the debtors’ control account and the sales ledger to ensure that any reconciling items are resolved on a daily basis.
- Timely posting of accountabilities, deposit slips and payment vouchers to facilitate timely generation of management accounts.
- Regularly review sub-ledgers to check mis-postings and recommending corrective actions.
- Prepares audit schedules and coordinate queries by internal and external auditors.
- Filing tax returns and liaising with Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) on tax-related matters.
- Prepare monthly collection summaries for use in the daily liquidity report.
- Carry out the purchasing function adhering to best practices in the conduct thereof.
- Daily updating and maintenance of inventory records in QuickBooks which includes prompt product costing, purchase order processing and posting of stores requisition vouchers.
- Monthly reconciliation of the physical stock balance with the system balance.
- Maintenance of an accurate staff debtors schedule at all times.
- In charge of the timely preparation of various credit control reports including but not limited to a continuous review of existing credit customers.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant should hold a Bachelor’s degree majoring in Accounts/Finance
- Professional ACCA/CPA Level II
- At least two years’ working experience
- Solid knowledge of QuickBooks accounting software
- Excellent multi-tasking ability and attention to detail
- Good knowledge and understanding of confidentiality surrounding critical business information
