Apply for the job of Project Officer / Social Mobilizer at AMREF

Job Summary: The Project Officer SCHAP will provide onsite supervision to static, outreaches in the wellness centres in the districts where the project scope covers. The job holder will focus on increasing control measures against sexually transmitted diseases including HIV / AIDS by promoting education and access to services for the beneficiaries. The project officer will promote stakeholder involvement in the development and operation of project work plans to improve HIV prevention uptake and linkages to services, scaling up Safe Male Circumcision (SMC) and promoting out-reach HCT including door-to-door for beneficiaries.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Initiate work in the designated areas by visiting, motivating, reaching and registering clients for SMC services
  • Mobilise and increase community demand for SMC services whilst strengthening static SMC activities in wellness centres.
  • Promote participatory and supportive management of the AMREF team to ensure innovation and professional growth.
  • Motivate and encourage leaders and motivate them to seek SMC services
  • Liaise with District health officials in accessing health facility infrastructural needs and plan for the provision of those within the project work plan and budget
  • Increase participation in STI, ANC, PMTCT and other health area activities using structures and civil society  partnerships
  • Develop appropriate IEC and other behavioural change communication materials in coordination with ACP, DHTs ensuring appropriate translation into local languages, distribution and utilisation.
  • Scale up BCC project strategies
  • Compare success stories and lessons learned in each program implementation phase.
  • Conduct baseline survey to help in data collection and draw indicators of project interventions
  • Liaise with the District Health Teams (DHOs) to promote, review / develop , track and use health indicators in SMC planning and identify best practices to scale-up activities
  • Train health workers in SMC and build capacities to deliver interventions
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reports
  • Perform other duties as assigned by superiors.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must possess a bachelor’s degree in social sciences, art and development studies or relevant area.
  • Possession of a post graduate degree in public health.
  • A minimum of three to five (5) years’ experience in HIV / AIDS interventions as national level and behavioural change prevention programs preferably in the NGO field.
  • Conversant with the MOH reporting guidelines and use of national SMC services
  • Computer literacy skills
  • Experience in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) and External Quality Assessment (EQA)
  • Good understanding of best documentation practices and evidence in regards to project experiences to support program development and evidence-based advocacy.
  • Practical experience in working at wellness centres; including participating in outreach centres and SMS is highly advantageous
  • Good understanding of social mobilisation
  • Excellent track record in managing finances in an NGO
  • Experience in conducting training at the community level for health workers.
  • Knowledge of SMC control policies
  • Experience in implementing activities in HIV/AIDS, co-infection, STI, PMTCT and ANC.
  • Excellent oratory skills in local language is an added advantage.
