Job Summary: The Barclays Corporate Credit Manager will serve as a credit expert to the relationship team and the conduit to the Credit Risk function for sanctioning purposes. He /she will be responsible for developing practical and appropriate credit solutions (i.e. lending structures) through understanding customers’ needs. The incumbent will also be delivering high quality and consistent, credit applications, making recommendations. The job holder will actively monitor and control nominated accounts within designated portfolios. The Corporate Credit Manager will also maintain integrity of Commercial Credit Risk System (CCRS) data ensuring financial information is updated.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  1. Understanding the Credit/ Solutions Development – 30%
  • Assess a customer’s business through the analysis of Business and Credit risks associated with the provision of the bank’s products and services to the customer.
  • Develop high quality credit solutions with the view of obtaining fast credit approval from Credit teams.
  • Be the joint contact for credit management purposes for accountants, solicitors and other professionals.
  1. The Credit Process- 30%
  • Responsible for the preparation of Commercial Credit Risk System (CCRS) applications with paper attachments for recommendation to the Sanctioners
  • Work closely with the sanctioning office for all credits that are outside local Risk Management or the Relationship Manager’s personal discretion.
  • Attend customer meetings with the Relationship Manager if credit related issues are to be discussed/ need to be resolved.
  • Regularly review and sign facility letters and co-ordinate execution of documentation and draw down of facilities.
  1. Portfolio Management- Monitoring and Control – 30%
  • Responsible for managing financial information produced by customers.
  • Responsible for managing the end to end process for risk reports, challenging Relationship Managers where control lapses or potential risk has been identified
  • Monitor and Control quality of portfolio using ‘Condition of Sanction’ triggers where possible. Discussing with Sanctioners deteriorating trends and trigger events if they give cause for concern, advising the Relationship Manager simultaneously.
  1. Staff Management – 10%
  • Support the Team Leaders in delivering effective performance development for individuals within the team.
  • Drive proactive application of Barclays Guiding Principles both personally and throughout the team and coach and support colleagues within the Team.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The ideal candidate should have proven experience in a Credit role at a junior management level gained within the Bank or blue-chip financial organization
  • Detailed working knowledge of credit and financial analysis techniques.
  • Internal instructions/procedures including Head office instructions, Barclays Africa Whole Sale Credit Risk Standards and Control Framework.
  • Products and services frequently used by customers
  • Keen awareness of legislation affecting the Bank and customers having the highest regard for confidentiality.
  • Working knowledge of Commercial Credit Risk System (CCRS) or a similar system to analyse, monitor and report on credit applications
  • Possess excellent understanding of credit and associated risks
  • Highly experienced user of Commercial Credit Risk System (CCRS) or a similar system to analyse, monitor and report on credit applications.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills that have been proven in a Business or Credit environment at a management level.
  • Possession of the ACIB professional qualification or equivalent is preffered
  • Accreditation on use of the Commercial Credit Risk System (CCRS) system would be an added advantage
