Apply for Postdoctoral Research Fellowships in Molecular Biology in Norway, 2014

Applications are invited for research fellowships in the field of Molecular Biology at Centre for Molecular Medicine Norway, NCMM. Applicants holding a PhD or MD PhD degree that appreciate working in an international and interactive environment are eligible to apply. Postdoctoral positions will be placed as postdoctoral research fellow with salary range depending on qualifications.

Eligibility: They seek highly motivated individuals holding a PhD or M.D.-PhD degree that appreciate working in an international and interactive environment. A strong background in stem cell biology and/or bioinformatics is demanded with a high interest to work with animal models, gene targeting, ChiP and FAIRE-Seq analysis as well as flow cytometry and biochemistry.
-Applications should include a cover letter summarizing the applicant’s career, past research accomplishments (1-2 pages), CV and a list of publications, copies of certificates and names of three references.

Scholarship Description: The Centre for Molecular Medicine Norway (NCMM, www.ncmm.uio.no) was established in 2008 as a national partnership institution with the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (www.embl.org) together with similar centres in Sweden, Finland and Denmark under the Nordic EMBL Partnership. NCMM is an international research institute with an overall objective of facilitating translation of discoveries in basic medical research into clinical practice. In more detail, NCMM focuses particularly on disease mechanisms where Norway has clear strengths and investigates disease mechanisms in cancer, immune disorders and cardiovascular diseases. The Staerk group at NCMM studies processes during normal and malignant hematopoiesis. The projects available focus on studying myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), a clonal hematopoietic disorder in the age group above 50 that is characterized by impaired blood cell differentiation and a predisposition to transformation to acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Primary patient samples, induced pluripotent stem cells from MDS patients (MDS-iPSC) and MDS-iPSC derived disease-relevant cell types will be analyzed to identify underlying molecular causes of MDS pathogenesis.

Number of award(s): Two fellowships will be offered.

Duration of award(s): Fellowships will be offered for 3 and 2 years.

What does it cover? Postdoctoral-positions will be placed as SKO 1352 (position code) post-doctoral research fellow with salary range depending on qualifications: step 57 – 65 (NOK 473 400 – 548 700).
