Apply for Cardiff School of Medicine PhD Studentships in UK, 2014

Cardiff University is offering two 4-year PhD studentship in the Institute of Infection and Immunity, Cardiff School of Medicine, starting in October 2014. PhD studentships in the field of lipidomics of cardiovascular disease and dementia. Candidates should hold a Biological Sciences degree. This can include degrees in Anatomy, Physiology & Pathology, Biomedical Sciences, Medicine, Neuroscience and Pharmacology. The studentships will cover the candidates’ full UK/EU tuition fees plus a doctoral stipend matching UK Research Council Minimum (£13,726 for 2013/14). 15th December 2013 is the application deadline.

Eligibility: –Academic Criteria: Candidates should hold a Biological Sciences degree. This can include degrees in Anatomy, Physiology & Pathology, Biomedical Sciences, Medicine, Neuroscience and Pharmacology.
Residency: Studentships are open to all UK/EU students without restrictions.
Other Criteria: Experience in bioinformatics or biostatistics would be helpful, but not essential. Alternatively, someone with a biochemical/biological background with an interest in learning bioinformatic and biostatistical approaches towards analysis of biological datasets would be suitable.

Scholarship Description: Two 4-year PhD studentship opportunities are available in the Institute of Infection and Immunity, Cardiff School of Medicine, starting in October 2014. Applications are sought from outstanding and enthusiastic UK/EU science graduates, ideally with relevant experience. The successful candidates will join the established group of Professor V O’Donnell and will use new generation mass spectrometry and bioinformatic approaches to further our understanding of lipid biology in cardiovascular disease and dementia. The posts are funded by a prestigious European Research Council grant recently awarded to the group.
