Apply for 1,500 Chevening Scholarships for Postgraduate Students in UK, 2016-2017

Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations are offering 1,500 Chevening scholarships for master students. The programme provides full or part funding for full-time courses at postgraduate level, normally a one-year Master’s degree in any subject and at any UK University.

Chevening scholarships cover tuition fees, a living allowance at a set rate (for one individual), an economy class return airfare to the UK and additional grants to cover essential expenditure. Some Scholarships cover part of the cost of studying in the UK; for example, tuition fees only or allowances only. The application deadline is 3 November 2015.

Eligibility: To be eligible for a Chevening Scholarship you must:
-Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country.
-Return to your country of citizenship for a minimum of two years after your scholarship has ended
-Have an undergraduate degree that will enable you to gain entry to a post-graduate programme at a UK university. This is typically equivalent to an upper second-class 2:1 honours degree in the UK
-Have at least two years’ work experience
-Apply to three different eligible UK university courses and have received an unconditional offer from one of these choices by 14 July 2016
-Meet the Chevening English language requirement by 14 July 2016
You are not eligible for a Chevening Scholarship if you:
-Hold British or dual British citizenship (unless you are a citizen of a British Overseas Territory or hold BN(O) and are applying from Hong Kong)
-Are an employee, a relative of an employee, or a former employee (since July 2013) of Her Majesty’s Government (including British Embassies/High Commissions, the Department for International Development, the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, UK Trade and Investment, the Ministry of Defence and the Home Office), the British Council, a partner, a sponsoring UK university, or a staff member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities.
-Have previously studied in the UK with funding from a UK Government-funded scholarship. Chevening Alumni are not eligible to apply for a further scholarship but may be eligible to apply for a fellowship five years after completion of the first award.

Scholarship Description: Chevening Scholarships are the UK government’s global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations. The programme makes awards to outstanding scholars with leadership potential from around the world to study postgraduate courses at universities in the UK. The Chevening programme was established in 1983 and has developed into a prestigious international scheme. Chevening Scholars come from more than 150 countries and territories worldwide (excluding the USA and the EU), and this year the Scholarships will support more than 1500 individuals. There are over 43,000 Chevening alumni around the world who together comprise an influential and highly regarded global network.

Number of award(s): There are approximately 1,500 Chevening Scholarships on offer globally for the 2016/2017 academic cycle.

What does it cover? A full Chevening Scholarship award normally comprises:
-university tuition fees
-a monthly stipend
-travel costs to and from the UK
-an arrival allowance
-a homeward departure allowance
-a thesis grant
-a grant for study materials
-a study travel allowance
-the cost of one visa application
-a travel grant to attend Chevening events in the UK

Notification: Candidates are notified that they have been selected for interview by mid-February 2016.

Online Application: Applications for Chevening Awards can only be submitted using the Chevening online application system, available through the ‘apply’ button on your country page. Prior to starting your application for a Chevening Scholarship please ensure you have the following ready:
Essential: Two references to be provided in a letter format and written in English, Valid passport/national ID card, University transcripts (undergraduate, postgraduate) and Three different UK Master’s course choices. Please note that only documents in PDF format can be uploaded and documents cannot be over 5MB in size.
Optional: English language (if already met the requirements) and UK Master’s university offer (if already met the requirements). You can submit your initial application without these optional documents and upload them to your application at any point up to 14 July 2016. Please note that if you are eventually conditionally selected for a Chevening Scholarship, it is essential that you provide evidence that you meet the Chevening English language requirements and that you have at least one offer from an eligible course before 14 July 2016 in order to remain in the process.
