Everything is in place for the Annual Media Convention(AMC)2018/2019 slated tommorrow Thursday, April 25,2019 at Makerere University.
The event will be held in the University main building from 08:00 am to 5:30 pm under the theme “communicating science in the social media age: Sharing technical Information from researchers with the public”
AMC is hosted each year by the Makerere department of Journalism and Communication (DJC) ever since 1998 geared at providing a platform for journalists and communication to exchange ideas on research and reporting.
According to the DJC head of department, Dr. William Tayeebwa, the event is aimed at providing a forum for discussing emerging issues relating to media in Uganda and beyond.
“It is on this background that the AMC this academic year is paying attention to how technical information from research institutions is reported to the general public, the challenges faced and how such information is discussed in society, in an attempt to improve science communication in Uganda.
Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye, Science, Technology and Innovations minister will grace the event in attendance of journalists and media practitioners, public communication experts, policy makers and government officials, academicians, civil society and development partners, as well as journalism students across the region.
The best students in academics and photojournalism will be awarded with Cranimer Mugerwa Award and the Tebere Mudini Award respectively.
