Uganda Red Cross Society (URCS) is the leading National Humanitarian Organization in Uganda and a member of the International Red Cross Red Crescent Movement, comprising International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), International Federation of Red Cross Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and National Red Cross/Red Crescent Societies (189 worldwide).

Job Summary: The Communications Officer will be responsible for the Development, Implementation and Monitoring of URCS’ Communications, Public Relations and Advocacy/campaign Plans in line with the Organization’s Strategic Plan and Program Objectives

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develops and roll out URCS’ Communications Strategy and Monitor its implementation in line with the Organizational Strategy and relevant program priorities
• Works with programmes, PMER, Resource Mobilization and Corporate Affairs functions/departments to plan, develop, roll out and monitor communications campaigns, documentation, brand profiling to increase public awareness, Donors base, advocacy, and influence attitudes and behaviors.
• Maintains and uphold URCS’ Standards of documentation, branding and profiling of URCS in line with Strategic priorities and to deepen URCS’ positioning as a leading actor in the implementation of Disaster and Relief Services in fighting poverty and vulnerability.
• Develops staff and Partner communication capacity, roll out and uphold robust internal & external communications Policies, Practices and Systems to ensure efficiency, timeliness and effective interactive communications practices compliant with URCS’ Communications Policy and Strategy.
• Develops & strengthens best practices in development communications and create practical tools for mainstreaming communication planning into programming to give poor and marginalized communities a platform to raise their concerns on advocacy issues and secure public knowledge and awareness on these issues.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• The ideal candidate for the Communications Officer vacancy should possess a good University Degree in Information Science, Journalism/Mass Communications, Communications Science, Media Studies from a recognized university;
• A relevant Post Graduate qualification preferably in Mass Communications or Public Relations would be an added advantage;
• A minimum of three or more years’ experience in similar position from a busy organization or media house
• Skills and competencies in fundraising and Public Relations; Public Speaking; Media management; Video production and editing; photography and photo editing
• Strong ability to handle multiple tasks in a multicultural setting;
• A system-oriented person with high sense of judgment.
