Job Title:  Administrative Officer

The British Council is the UK’s international organisation for educational opportunities and cultural relations. We create international opportunities for the people of the UK and other countries and build trust between them worldwide. British Council Uganda is based in Kampala and offers a full range of programmes including examinations, project management on behalf of other donors, and its own grant funded projects. British Council has operated in Uganda since 1952 and its aim is to build cultural and educational relations between Uganda and the UK.

Job Summary: The British Council Administrative Officer will mainly provide consistent quality experiences to British Council internal and external customers by delivering an effective, efficient, and integrated response on the full range of activities and services executed by the Ugandan directorate.  The job holder will provide administrative support to the British Council Projects Team as directed by the Head of Partnerships & Projects.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

1. Provision of administrative support to the Projects Team entails:

  • Co-ordinating and supporting activities that link the programmes team with all internal support functions;
  • Provision of administrative/logistical support towards key programme events;
  • Involvement in key engagements and liaisons with external stakeholders, including project-related communication and database maintenance;

2. Overseeing activities at the front of house in line with corporate standards and policies entails:

  • Attending to all walk-in visitors and providing them with a positive experience in accordance with British Council standards;
  • Ensuring that all materials, equipment and systems required for managing walk-in customers are in place, are fully functional and are compliant to British Council brand standards;
  • Maintaining and analysing logs of activity at the front of house and providing reports to support decision making;
  • Supporting the growth of the exams business through delivery of good, well-informed exams customer service experience as stipulated by the Exams Manager.

Key Performance Indicators:

  • Managing the front of house activities in the office, and will be accountable for the delivery of high quality customer services to all walk-in customers.
  • Providing administrative support to the British Council Projects Team by engaging with internal support functions, external partners, programme beneficiaries, funders and other key stakeholders.

Qualifications and experience

  • The ideal British Council candidates should possess a relevant University degree
  • Proven track record and experience in customer service and administration
  • Managing relationships with customers, clients and stakeholders
    Good reading and writing skills
  • Excellent speaking and listening skills
  • Ability to understand the audience
    Good knowledge and understanding and responding to customer needs
    Good computer literacy skills
  • Administrative and Organisational skills
