Job Title: Clinical Mentor

Management Sciences for Health (MSH) is an international non-profit, public health organisation with headquarters in USA, whose purpose is to strengthen health programs worldwide. MSH Uganda is currently running a number of USAID and other donor funded projects including STAR-E in Eastern Uganda. STAR-E is a 5-year USAID- supported District-based HIV/TB Project, ending in March 2015. The project focusing on the prevention, care, and treatment of HIV/TB in health facilities and communities, is headquartered in Mbale but with activities in the 12 Eastern districts of Budaka, Bududa, Bukwo, Bulambuli, Busia, Butaleja, Kapchorwa, Kibuku, Kween, Mbale, Pallisa and Sironko Districts.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Clinical Mentor will be a clinician with experience in providing comprehensive HIV/TB services, including anti-retroviral therapy (ART), who will travel frequently to health centers in the District Based HIV/TB Program (DBHP) areas to introduce and improve the quality of these services.
  • Ensure that all HIV/TB services meet national guidelines and treatment protocols and that each health center meets national accreditation standards.
  • Mentor and train other new clinical mentors identified by the DBHP to improve access to and the quality of comprehensive HIV/TB services
  • Assist service providers, case managers, data clerks and other health center staff to link up with both community and hospital focal points to strengthen two way referrals both up and down the network.

 Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must be a clinical health care professional (Medical Doctor, Clinical Officer, Nurse) with training of at least years’ experience in provision of comprehensive HIV/AIDS & TB services, including ART
  • Working knowledge and experience in Provider Initiated Counseling and Testing, TB-HIV, Integrated Management of Adult Illness (IMAI), and palliative care
  • Past exposure and experience working in a health center environment desirable
  • Past experience in training others in HIV/TB services and providing supportive supervision
  • Prior experience in quality improvement, monitoring and evaluation, and HMIS desirable
  • Fluent in written & spoken English essential
