The 9th East African University Games (EAUG) were launched on Thursday, 10th July 2014 at Uganda Christian University (UCU).

The games will attract universities from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, Sudan, Eritrea, Somalia, Ethiopia, Comoros and Seychelles will all take part.

About 6,000 participants from 12 countries are expected to take part in 17 sporting disciplines during the 9th East African University Games.

The games will include; Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Chess, Darts, Handball, Hockey, Karate, Rugby, Scrabble, Soccer, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis, Volleyball and Woodball.

The 9th East African University Games will kick off on 17th December2014 and will run under the theme; ” “spectacle and grandeur of the Eastern African Spirit”

His Grace Stanley Ntagali, the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda and Chancellor of Uganda Christian University who was the chief guest thanked the Eastern Africa University Sports Federation for giving chance to UCU to host the games.

Ntagali also unveiled the Games’ official logo.

President of the local organizing committee, Anny Katabaazi said that UCU is in a race against time in preparation for the biannual games.

“We are looking for close to Ug.shs 1.2 Billion in preparation of the games’ village, facilities”, Katabaazi, who is also the Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Finance and Administration at UCU noted.
