Job Title: IT Manager
The UVRI-IAVI HIV Vaccine Program (the Program), founded in 2001, is a not for profit organization with offices and research facilities based at the Uganda Virus Research Institute in Entebbe.
The Program’s main activities are conducting research, building capacity and providing advocacy for HIV/AIDS vaccine as well as molecular and epidemiological work toward HIV prevention. The Program is mainly funded by the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI), USA but also receives funding from other donors.
Job Summary: The IT Manager will be responsible for supporting IT planning and resourcing ensuring fully functioning IT Resources and Customer/Client Support.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:Â
- Intuitively plan the activities of the IT Department in a way that will maximize support for the accomplishment of UVRI-IAVI’s goals and strategies.
- Make sure that up to date IT resources are provided to staff to help them work effectively and that all equipment is fully functional at all times.
- Offer UVRI-IAVI Staff and Visitors with continuous, good quality, internet and e-mail services.
- Develop and maintain well-organised and easily accessible information management system
- Coordinate and supervise IT Service providers and consultants to ensure compliance to the terms and conditions.
- Technically support procurement and supervision of IT products and any outsourced technical support including licensed agreements and sales support.
- Develop and implement server and disaster recovery procedures including security and access controls
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:Â
- The candidate should preferably hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field
- Past experience in at IT environment at managerial level in the fields of project management, technical support and systems programming computer operations
- Prior experience with web and internet technologies
- A minimum of three years’ experience in IT and LAN/WAN management
- Acknowledged expertise in a range of operating systems – UNIX, LINUX and networking software
- Detailed knowledge of proprietary scientific application will be an added advantage
- Possess the ability to effectively explain technical issues to non-technical users will be highly preferred
- Proven skills in analysing systems and IT hardware maintenance
