The exchange of sex for marks at universities by some students lowers the education standards and therefore students who engage in such behavior risk being punished.

The Education minister, Jessica Alupo sounded the warning while speaking at the launch of the National Council of Higher Education (NCHE) exhibition at UMA Hall in Kampala last month.

“I have heard of cases where students offer sex for good results and also seduce lectures to give them free marks,” she said, adding that “This is a warning to all those doing it, it is a criminal offence that is punishable.”

Alupo said it is unethical for students to get marks they have not worked for through illicit means such as seduction of teachers.

In the previous years, such cases were reported to be rampant at Makerere university. However, the high rate of such cases is blamed on silence. The affected lecturers nor student report such matters to the authorities.
