Chelsea reject £40m bid from Man United for Mason Mount

Chelsea reject Manchester United’s £40m bid for England midfielder Mason Mount.

Mount, 24, has been highlighted by United manager Erik Ten Hag as someone who can enhance his offensive options.

However, given that the England international has only one year left on his contract, United do not believe Chelsea’s estimate of £70 million is reasonable.

The Red Devils are set to make another bid for the attacking midfielder, although they are conscious of their entire transfer budget this summer.

For the same reason, it is thought that United will not buy England striker Harry Kane, 29, from Tottenham for £100 million.

Ten Hag has prioritized signing a new striker this summer, although Mount’s ability to operate in advanced areas is said to have made him a priority.
Mount entered Chelsea’s youth at the age of six and went on loan to Vitesse Arnhem and Derby County before making his first-team debut in August 2019.

He was a first-team regular for three seasons, helping the Blues win the Champions League in 2020-21, but his number of Premier League starts for 2022-23 plummeted to 20.
Mount was injured at the end of the domestic season, and Chelsea finished 12th, leaving him with 33 goals in 195 games for the Blues.

Chelsea has been in contract talks with Mount for the majority of last season, but the club has spent £600 million in the last two transfer windows and has to sell by June 30 to alleviate Financial Fair Play worries.
