Lira University Inducts New Council Members

Lira University Council members including the newly elected Vice Chairperson, Dr Florence Ebila have been sworn in.

This, according to the university’s Senior Communication Officer Patrick Opio.

The newly appointed members are Caroline Nabasirye Kambugo (Academic Staff Representative), Jimmy Francis Obonyo (academic staff representative), Sara Peace Acen (Vice Guild President), David Dickson Ogwal (Guild President) and Hon.Sam Atul (Lira City Council Mayor).

The new members took oaths of office secrecy during the Council meeting on 27th April 2023 at Public Health Board Room.

This makes a total of 18 members of the Council chaired by Assoc. Prof. Okullo Odom Joel. Other members of the University Council are Prof. Jasper Ogwal Okeng(Vice Chancellor), Timothy Ssejjoba Musoke, Assoc. Prof. Lonjino Mulo Ogwal, Dr John Ricky Akeny, Assoc. Prof. Okaka Opio Dokotum (Deputy VC), Timothy Jokenne Okee, Bosco Ogwang Edola, Dr David Martin Ogwang,Timothy Ronald Nambogo, Nelson Wazemba and Augustine Oyang Atubo(University Secretary).

Prof. Okullo Odom advised the new members to keep office secretary and work diligently for the young university to grow faster. He advised members not to interfere with the work of technical staff as the practice may cause confusion, interrupt processes in decision making at the expense of development.

“Secrecy is an important element of an effective Management, avoid rumour mongering, leaking out official information for selfish interest,” he cautions.

Dr Okullo Odom encouraged the University’s academic and non-academic staff to work as a team in implementing Council decisions for a better Lira University.

Vice Chancellor, Prof, Jasper Ogwal Okeng advised the students representatives of not only pushing for and supporting students’ issues but join other council members in passing policies that serve the interest of the Lira University as a whole.

“Although you are students, you have joined us in the management of this great university without fear or favour. Be impartial and effectively contribute to council business as they come for discussions,” Prof. Ogwal Okeng asserts.
