Project background:
The Social and Behavioral Change Activity (SBCA) is a five-year program implemented through a cooperative agreement between the United States Agency for International Development (USAID/Uganda) and Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs (CCP). The vision of USAID’s Social and Behavioral Change Activity is a Uganda where individuals and communities are not just healthy, but resilient, supported by strong adaptable systems and institutions to lead productive lives.
The SBC Activity supports the Government of Uganda (GOU) and US government (USG) implementing partners to design and implement Social and behavioral Change (SBC) communication initiatives that contribute towards reduction in Maternal and Child mortality, Malaria prevalence, Total Fertility rate, new HIV infections, TB prevalence and improved Nutrition out comes, resilience and improved SBC systems and expertise.
Job Summary: The Campaign and Media Management Associate will support the Campaign and Media Management Specialist to develop media plans and oversee the day-today implementation of SBC approaches across different media platforms to scale, ensuring maximum penetration, reach, intensity, and dosage at national, regional, district and community levels.
This position role reports to the Campaign and Media Management Specialist and involves 40% in country travel.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Participate and support the conceptualization and development of SBC strategies, approaches, materials, and tools that cater for the needs and interests of audiences across the different thematic areas handled by SBCA.
- Support the Campaign and Media Management Specialist and other SBCA staff to plan and execute the rollout SBC approaches on mass, social, and alternative media channels, and interpersonal communication settings (including community mobilization) for the different thematic areas.
- Maintain an inventory of SBC materials produced and disseminated to Implementing Partners (IPs) and districts for different thematic areas and campaigns.
- Participate and support in the planning and conducting of the OBULAMU community shows and any IPC related activities.
- Maintain an up-to-date inventory of health-related articles published in the local media and ensure that these are shared weekly to rest of the SBCA staff.
- Keep up to date with national and international guidelines and requirements about the mass media and ensure that these are adhered to when developing and implementing SBC approaches on mass, social and alternative media channels, and interpersonal communication settings.
- Support the documentation of lessons and success stories from implementation of designed SBC approaches on the various platforms.
- Support the Campaign and Media Management Specialist in development of quarterly and an annual report for the implemented mass, alternative, and social media, and interpersonal communication activities.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication, Development Studies, Social Sciences, Literature, Psychology, Music & Drama or any other humanities or sciences.
- A minimum of one to two years of experience in a similar role.
- Oral and written fluency in English.
- Sound knowledge of MS Office and design software.
- Familiarity with a content management system (e.g., WordPress).
- Sound knowledge of communication techniques as well as current practices.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills.
- Exceptional time-management and organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask while working in a fast-paced team environment.
- Analytical mind with a problem-solving attitude.
