Europa League’s last 16 commenced yesterday night Thursday 9th march, and various games were played like Man U vs Real Betis, Sporting vs Arsenal, Juventus vs Freiberg and more.

Here is how the Europa League turned out.

Man U 4-1 Real Betis

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag praised goalscoring skipper Bruno Fernandes as the star man in his side’s Europa League last-16 first-leg victory against Real Betis.

Manchester United bounced back from Sunday’s defeat at Liverpool with Antony’s stunner helping them cement a 4-1 first-leg Europa League last-16 lead over Real Betis.

Sporting 2-2 Arsenal

William Saliba and Hidemasa Morita’s own goal earned the Gunners a draw in Europa League last-16 first leg.

Arsenal’s William Saliba scored the first goal, but Sporting took the lead with goals from Goncalo Inacio and Paulinho. Arsenal equalized through an own goal from Hidemasa Morita. Gabriel Jesus was not in the squad for this match. The second leg of the match will take place on March 16th.

Arsenal fought back to earn a 2-2 draw in an action-packed and error-filled Europa League last-16 first leg at Sporting.

Juventus 1-0 Freiberg

Freiburg was narrowly beaten 1-0 by Juventus in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League last 16 ties, meaning their hopes of progression to the quarter-finals are still alive.

The defeat was Freiburg’s first in the Europa League proper this campaign

Roma 2-0 Real Scociedad

Jose Mourinho’s Roma secured a 2-0 win over Real Sociedad, putting themselves in a favourable position for the next leg.

Stephan El Shaarawy scored the first goal of the game by finishing off a cross from Tammy Abraham, and Roma waited until the end of the match to score their second goal, with Marash Kumbulla finding the back of the net with only three minutes left in regular time.

Bayern Leverkusen 2-0 Ferencvarosi TC

Bayer Leverkusen defeated Ferencvaros 2-0 with goals from Kerem Demirbay and Edmond Tapsoba, improving their chances of advancing to the last eight. The Bundesliga side took a 10th-minute lead from Kerem Demirbay’s 17-metre drive into the top left corner.

Ferencvaros had a close call when Kristoffer Zachariassen hit the crossbar, but they were mostly ineffective, as were the hosts, Bayer Leverkusen, who generated few chances. However, Edmond Tapsoba secured the win for Leverkusen by heading in the rebound from Adam Hlozek’s free-kick that hit the left post.

Sevilla 2-0 Fenerbahce

The half-time changes turned a hesitant Sevilla side into a much better team, and they will travel to Turkey next week with a two-goal lead, with goals from Joan Jordán and Lamela.

Dmitrovic was the standout performer for Sevilla in the first half.
