About US:

Uganda Christian University (UCU) is an authentic Christian institution established by the Church of Uganda in 1997 in response to a call for quality university education with a Christian perspective. Uganda Christian University replaced the historic Bishop Tucker Theological College which trained clergy and educators during its 84-year history from 1913-1997. The local chief, Hamu Mukasa, granted land for the college to operate in Mukono.

Job Summary:  This is a one-year internship programme for the best students in the Department of Computing and Technology. It intends to develop students’ work habits, attitudes, advanced innovation, and technical skills necessary for future job success.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Development of new innovative software applications as required by the university or as directed by supervisors.
  • Troubleshoot problems, run diagnostics, and conduct tests, and periodically carry out computer lab audits and advise the lab technician.
  • Participating in the department’s community outreach programmes, exhibitions, and conferences.
  • Participate in personal and professional skills development activities such as certifications, research, and postgraduate studies.
  • Assist students in the computer science lab by demonstrating the proper and safe use of the equipment and ensure there they have all the supplies they need to complete their practical assignments and projects.
  • Assist lecturers with setting up equipment and other supplies for practical courses before and during the lectures.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in any of the programmes offered by the Department of Computing and Technology at Uganda Christian University.
  • Should have graduated within three years before the internship begins.
  • Must be a mature and practising Christian of integrity.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to meet strict deadlines
  • Public speaking skills: ability to communicate clearly to individuals, small and large groups.
  • Interpersonal professional skills: ability to cooperate and network on a multidisciplinary team.
  • Technical skills: Ability to set up and execute practical activities related to the UCU computer science curriculum.
