There have been rumours that Aseru, a daughter to State minister for local government, Alex Onzima belongs to the National Resistance Movement just like her father.

Responding to a question from fellow candidate, independent Nicholas Nanyenya, at the Guild Presidential Candidates’ Debate at Makerere University Main Hall, Aseru said that though she has a relationship with NRM, she chose a different path.

“I have a relationship with NRM because I am a daughter to Minister Alex Onzima. That is what my father chose. For me, I did not choose NRM,” she said.

Aseru beat competition from three contestants to take the UYD flag in the party’s primaries.

The race has attracted 8 candidates and the winner take over from Ann Ebaju Adeke.

Students will be voting this Wednesday 19th March.
