The HiPipo music awards 9th edition has kicked off with nominations opening on Monday October 28, 2019 with the deadline slated on 13th December.

The nominees, fans and guests will be hosted at Kampala Serena hotel in the grand finale on March 14, 2020.

The HiPipo CEO Innocent Kawooya, at the edition’s unveiling ceremony emphasized that, just like the very successful 8^th edition, the 9^th season of HiPipo Music Awards comes with #WeTheBest theme.

“The 8^th edition was massive as we hosted musicians, fans and stakeholders from over 15 countries. The 9^th edition is going to be bigger, better and sweeter. We remain committed to developing African music through objectively recognizing, rewarding and appreciating stand out acts throughout the continent,” Kawooya said.

The nomination process

“We have categories with broader reach out to the different niche markets and regions to enable us celebrate a variety of music and embrace Africa. You can nominate your favourite artistes and acts via web and social media. The music eligible for nomination must have been released between 1^st November 2018 and 31^st October 2019,” CEO Kawooya stated.

Last year, the list of winners featured local artists like Sheebah Kalungi, Vinka and John Blaq. Artists outside Uganda who won awards included Sauti Sol (Kenya), Sarkodie (Ghana) Shatta Wale (Ghana), Diamond Platnumz (Tanzania) and Natacha (Burundi), among others. 

The awards ceremony also saw performances from Denmark-based Ugandan singer Joanita Zachariassen, Triplets Ghetto Kids, Nina Roz, Roden Y and Kenneth Mugabi.
