DFCU Limited was started by the Commonwealth Development Corporation (CDC) of the United Kingdom and the Government of Uganda through the Uganda Development Corporation (UDC) under the name of Development Finance Company of Uganda Limited. Later restructuring brought in DEG (of Germany) and International Finance Corporation (IFC) as equal partners with CDC and UDC, each having a 25% stake in the company. Its objective was to support long-term development projects whose financing needs and risk did not appeal to the then existing financial commercial lending institutions.

Job Summary:  The Core Banking Systems Manager is responsible for managing the Core banking systems particularly in the establishment, installation, organization, maintenance and governance of any core banking system within the production environment. This includes management of all persons responsible for handling production Core Banking Systems and the related service support partners. The role is also to ensure specification and documentation of operational requirements, full acceptance testing of proposed changes, implementation of accepted changes, full ownership of the Core Banking Systems UAT test environments, as well as Core Banking systems high availability and Disaster recovery setup, Capacity management of Core Banking Production systems and documentation of all related operating instructions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Member of BT Operations Management Committee
  • Provides Team leadership and management for Core Banking Systems staff
  • Manages Core Banking Systems Administration
  • Manages and advises Core Banking Vendors and Specialist Services
  • Core Banking Systems incident, problem & requests management
  • Regular monitoring of the Core Banking Systems to ensure High Availability & Disaster recovery
  • Review and implementation of Core Banking Systems Security
  • Ensure speedy recovery for Core Banking Systems in event of disaster
  • Ensure interfaces health and availability for all Core Banking surround systems and channels


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant for the DFCU Bank Core Banking Systems Manager job placement must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering or other numerical biased field from a reputable university or college
  • Certification in database management
  • Finacle Core Banking Systems Training Key
  • ITIL Foundation training
  • Minimum 6 years’ technical experience supporting Finacle banking system in medium to large organizations
  • Advanced hands on Finacle Systems skills
  • Wide knowledge of and advanced skills in computer hardware and software programs of diverse functionality. Including but not limited to, communications systems, desktop applications, and network administration programs.
  • Significant experience in supporting databases (preferably Oracle, PostgreSQL and/or Microsoft SQL)
  • Application development skills
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and persuasively, interpret documents, understand procedures, write reports and correspondence; speak clearly to third parties and employees.
  • Able and willing to solve complex analytical challenges, independently analyze information; and make recommendations based on analysis.
  • Self-motivated team player with the ability to adapt and work co-operatively and effectively in different situations and teams to carry out assigned tasks maintain a positive attitude under stress conditions.
