Public Universities Vow to Continue with Strike even after Shs29b Government Pay
Public universities have confirmed that they will not end the strike although the government has released Shs29b for their salary enhancement.

The staff have vowed that, before the Shs4.3b arrears for support staff is paid, their strike is still on.

In the press release on Tuesday, the Ministry of Finance said that theĀ Shs29.5b released included theĀ Shs4.3b meant for the support staff.

However, Public Universities Non-Teaching Staff Executive Forum (PUNTSEF) claim the support staff arreas were discussed differently and the ministry had promised to give it first priority.

ā€œTherefore, the correct total allocation should be Shs33.8b. The purpose of this letter is to ask your office to make correct allocation which will reflect Shs29.5b and the Shs4.3b giving a total of Shs33.8b,ā€ PUNTSEF stressed in the letter.

According to the PUNTSEF chairpersonĀ  Mr Jackson Betihamah, the industrial action is still on since their demands have not yet been fully realised.

ā€œWe believe they will organise themselves and give us the Shs4.3b before the workers can resume work. On this note, I am calling on all the workers in the public universities and Uganda Management Institute to remain at home until this money is given to us,ā€ Betihamah said.
