The National Social Security Fund(NSSF) has taken the might institute, Makerere University to the high court over failure to its staff NSSF monthly allowances.
In the court documents, NSSF states that every Ugandan employee is entitled to a 15% off the gross salary every month to be paid as part of their adult benefits.
“Makerere is in breach of its statutory obligations to NSSF by non-remittance of the standard monthly contribution of the total wages paid to its employees,” NSSF’s notified.
According to NSSF, Makerere should avail all its employees’ particulars with factual figures connoting to their gross wages and the total social security contributions due on such wages.
Through its lawyers of Kasirye Byaruhanga & Company Advocates, the organisation wants Makerere to remit all the unpaid contributions with an interest in delayed remittances and general damages.
NSSF further notes that although a statutory notice had been earlier sent to the university, no action was received.
