FIFA World Cup Russia 2018 Highlights South Korea 1-2 Mexico June 23 2018

Javier Hernandez’s 50th goal for Mexico sealed their qualification from Group F and left South Korea on the brink of exiting the World Cup.

Mexico dominated the first half and lead through Carlos Vela’s penalty. Andres Guardado’s cross was blocked by Jang Hyun-Soo’s outstretched arm and the referee pointed to the spot without any VAR interference.

Hernandez’s record goal was a result of a typical Mexico counter attack which makes them dangerous in this tournament.

South Korea would loose the ball in their own half on several occasions and this left Hirving Lozano moving freely and connecting Hernandez who on one of these events set himself up to cut inside and beat the goalkeeper.

As South Korea’s sole threat, it was fitting that Tottenham striker Son gave his side fleeting hope in added time with a sublime, curling strike from 25 yards. South Korea were guilty of committing a lot of early fouls that resulted in the score above.
