About USAID Project:
Strengthening Decentralization for Sustainability (SDS) is a 6-year (April 17, 2010- April 16, 2016) USAID
funded program in support of the government of Uganda (GOU) at the district and Sub-county local government level. The project aims at improving results and sustainability of decentralized social service delivery through appropriate tools, technical assistance, and financial support. The SDS Program is
implemented by Cardno Emerging Markets, Ltd. USA, in collaboration with: Urban Institute; Development Info Structure Inc. (Devis);Infectious Disease Institute (IDI); and Tangaza Cinemas. The SDS programme objectives are to:

- Strengthen coordination of activities at the district and sub county level.
- Improve district management of resources and programs.
- Provide financial support through grants to local governments for better service delivery.
- Institute and support innovative approaches to sustain social sector service delivery.
Job Summary: The purpose of this internship scheme is twofold:
- Develop new M&E talents from the pool of brilliant young graduates that are fresh from the university, have no experience but are highly motivated and have a passion for M&E. This will enhance the aim of building local capacity and shaping the future’s manpower especially in areas of; Planning, Programming, Monitoring and Evaluation through these young graduates interested in developing their career in M&E where they will be trained, mentored and groomed for the same.
- Through routine hands-on M&E work, the SDS will in turn be supported by the interns to fulfill their increasingly demanding need for M&E within the Programme’s core business and also at the partner districts; ministries and the IPs coordinated by SDS.
Key Internship Objectives: The objectives of the internship scheme are to:
- Increase knowledge and skills of young graduates in M&E through practical training, mentorship and support supervision hence contributing to the national pool of M&E capacity in Uganda.
- Enhance more cost-efficient SDS programming by building capacity of M&E interns to conduct regular data collection, data entry, data analysis and reporting on SDS program work.
- Establish Innovative capacity building, skills based and knowledge sharing centered model that will be available for replication.
- Develop, implement and document a project based on PEPFAR priorities by close of the internship scheme.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The internship scheme seeks brilliant, highly committed and self-motivated, interested young graduates with a passion for Monitoring & Evaluation.
The applicants for the Internship positions should possess Bachelors’ degrees in areas of: Medical Sciences, Statistics, Economics, Demography and Population Studies, Development Studies, Social Sciences, Social Work and Social Administration, Information Technology, Finance and
Financial Management; and any other related disciplines. - The scheme is open to all qualified Ugandans from different institutions, ethnic backgrounds and gender that are ready to contribute to the pragmatic social development process of the country using the acquired Monitoring & Evaluation skills.
Age: 30 years and below
