Makerere University Biomedical Science students held a two days  annual Biomedical Engineering conference. This was the first of its kind ever since the Association was  started in 2011.  “The impact of technology development and innovation on the health care system of Africa”, was the theme of the conference.

The conference started on 18th and closed on 19th February 2015 in the auditorium at the College of Health Sciences which is located next to Makerere Police station.

Professor Reichert, a Bio-materials Professor at Duke University and currently part timing at Makerere University advised students on how to do Biomedical research.

“Let Research, Innovation and Biomedical Engineering have its roots from Makerere University” he said.

Other Influential presenters from the field of Biomedical Engineering both Local and international included Mr. Joseph Ssali (Ernest Cook Ultra sound Research and Education Institute), Mrs. Philippa Ngaju Makobore ( Head of the Instrumentation division at the Uganda industrial Research institute).

On the same occasion, Semakula Joseph and Nasimbwa Recheal who were the winners in the first and second positions for the freshman’s challenge which was held last semester with the aim of encouraging research and innovation were also awarded 300,000 and 150,000 shillings respectively.
