Job Title: Chief Finance Officer
Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) is a faith-based private university established in 1993, and owned by the Uganda Episcopal Conference. UMU received a civil University Charter in 2005 from government, to legitimize its existence and autonomy. UMU offers full-time, weekend/part time, and distance-learning courses. Students are drawn from a variety of backgrounds and countries like Uganda, the rest of Africa and world-wide.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Be in charge of and supervise personnel who may be deployed in the Finance Department.
- Tender considered advice to the Management Committee and the Governing Council on all matters concerning University Finances.
- Prepare an annual budget of income and expenditure for approval by the Finance Committee and Council.
- Manage the University cash flows including funds for Donor projects.
- Collect and account for all dues of the University including fees, sales and other payments.
- Keep accurate records of monies due to the University from rents, fundraising, donations, subsidies, legacies, grants, professional services, investments, endowments, fees etc
- Disburse University funds against approved vouchers. Keep correct and accurate records of all assets and property (movable and immovable) of the University.
- Support in management of University business and attend meetings as may be lawfully required by Management.
- Keep the schedule of Insurance Policies and pay premium when due.
- Advise the University in its Investment Ventures.
- Perform any other duties that are relevant to the Finance Office.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate should hold a Master’s Degree in Finance and Accounting or Commerce
- Professional ACCA or CPA and preferably a member of ICPAU. Any other relevant Professional qualifications are added advantage.
- The candidate should have worked at least five years in a reputable Organization, at any of the following positions: Senior Accountant, Financial Controller, or Bursar
- The candidate should be capable of using spreadsheets and database management systems.
- Possess the ability to command respect and capable of working with a team.
- Highly Self motivated, team player and ready to work long hours
Age: Between 40 and 50 years
